We are happy to announce that Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb is organizing 6th International Conference on European Company Law and Corporate Governance, which will be held remotely from Zagreb in November 2024.
Once again, the Conference aims to gather leading European researchers and experts in the field of company law and corporate governance, as well as students and young scholars who are facing the company law and corporate governance issues on everyday basis.
The Conference will focus on the current issues and will provide the opportunity to keep the pace with the latest developments in the field of European company law and corporate governance for its participants.

Idea & MissionThe Conference aims to promote the importance of the European Company Law and Corporate Governance and its significance for the proper functioning of the internal market. Special focus is on sustainability as an important part of every business operating on the Internal market and robust regulatory framework which is constantly emerging. The Conference tends to assemble the affirmed scientists and practitioners from the field of company law, corporate governance, accounting and auditing, compliance officers, attorneys at law, judges in order to stimulate the multidimensional and interdisciplinary deliberation. The Conference also looks at the future. It is also intended for the students of economic and legal study programs, who are about to face the internal market and shape it in the future. The representatives of civil associations, public sector, professionals, scholars, researchers, and academic community are all welcomed as potential beneficiaries of the Conference.

The Background
6th International Conference on European Company Law and Corporate Governance presents a continuation of the tradition established by the five previous conferences on European company law and corporate governance that were held in Zagreb in 2011, 2013, 2018, 2020 and 2022. Having in mind the good reception of the past Conferences and continuous developments in the field of European company law and corporate governance, the organizers agreed to continue the Conference series and to organize the 6th Conference.
General Information
The Conference is semi-open type. Once again, beside invited key note speakers who are affirmed experts in the field of European company law and corporate governance, everyone interested is welcomed to submit a contribution. The upcoming Conference will focus, but not exclusively, to the following topics:
- Corporate sustainability, in particular, the recent sustainability legislation: Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS)
- The use of digital technology in company law
- Challenges in the application of artificial intelligence in corporate governance
- Duties and responsibilities of board members
- Corporate reporting and auditing
- New tendencies in comparative company law - liberalization of capital requirements and the emergence of new company forms
Key note speakers
We are happy to announce that this year’s Conference keynote speakers will be Associate Professor Antigoni Alexandropoulou, European University Cyprus, Cyprus and Associate Professor Alessio Bartolacelli, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. The keynote speakers will introduce participants to the most current issues concerning European Company Law & Corporate Governance at the plenary session. Plenary session topics are “Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence” by Associate Professor Antigoni Alexandropoulou and "Fostering Sustainability and Stakeholder Participation: Is There a Role for Corporate Finance for a more Comprehensive Corporate Governance?” by Associate Professor Alessio Bartolacelli.
Participation & discussion, registration & fees
Organizing committee plans to manage the Conference online via an electronic platform due to ongoing construction works on structural renovation of the Faculty of Economics & Business main site. Registrations for the Conference will be open on September 15, after all submitted abstracts are reviewed and the final Conference program is published. The registration fee for the Conference is 60,00 Euros for the speakers and 90,00 Euros for other participants, and includes the possibility of remote participation at the Conference and online conference working materials.
